Unwanted increasing hair growth - what could cause it?

why would a 40 something male experience increased body hair growth all of a sudden? i can't search the web effectively because searches on 'hair growth' return overwhelming info on hair loss and how to increase hair on one's head. i dont have that problem my head of hair is full - my problem is hair is growing rapidly elsewhere (and dark). its uncomfortable and im trying to figure out what could be triggering this. some answers come back about 'hirsutism' but the growth isnt as dramatic as those responses. this is first time ive used 'answers' in attempt to figure this out. thanks

It could be a lot of things, but mainly involves your endocrine system.

A tumor on your pituitary gland.

Thyroid problems.

Where is this hair growing?

As we get older, certain hair grows longer and darker, like the ears, nose, eyebrows.

Men get new hair growth in odd places as they age, like back hair, long nose hair, hair in the ears. Thicker pubic hair. It's changing harmones. I don't know if they address body hair or not but there is lots of sites you can check out . Just search andropause on wemd, or any health sight. there are also prescription meds that can cause hair growth. That is how minoxidil was discovered. I believe it was for blood pressure originally, but not 100% sure.

Best answer would be to ask your MD to check your testosterone levels.
