Hair Growth; african american?

i am a 15 year old african american and i would love for my hair to be down to the middle of my back or longer. Right now it is down to about the back of my neck.

I got my hair cut off about two or three years ago and it seems like it has been the same length since [event though it has grown a little]. I get my hair relaxed every 5 to 6 weeks. Are there any home products that you know of that will help my hair grow to some extent?

I don't like how extentions look on me so please don't suggest that. %26amp; if there is anything that will prevent my hair from growing could you tell me so i'm not the cause of my short hair.

just keep your hair really healthy. since you get your hair relaxed that's a chemical so its damaging to your hair and makes it even harder to grow. but it does grow because you have to get the roots relaxed so that means your hair has breakage from the relaxer. switch to a relaxer that has more vitamins, and get it trimmed every time you get it relaxed just an 1/8 of an inch or less (dust the ends off). don't get any unnecessary hairstyles that could cause damage such as updos and if you have to use heat to blow dry and flat iron, use a heat protecting spray or cream. also try taking the vitamin Bioten which is good for your hair skin and nails. and stimulate your scalp when you shampoo it promotes growth. keep your hair and scalp well oiled which will keep the chemicals from drying it out.

Your hair could be suffering from breakage, there's no reason for it not to grow, and if so you would end up bald because the hair you shed would not grow back.

Trying different products may help, what they are, depends on you.

Well, I'm not sure about any products but I do know that keeping your hair in braids such as micros or kinky twists help grow hair. My hair used to be short also, but I kept it in braids for 2 years and it's shoulder length now.

BTW, relaxing or perming hair damages it, I suggest pressing it. If you do it well enough you'll get the same results with less damage.

Maybe 5-6 weeks is too soon for your hair to get processed. Normally, you're supposed to wait 6-8 weeks, and when your hair dresser applies the relaxer, it should only be on the new growth. Also, get a 15-20 minute deep conditioner every week that you wash your hair. Also, I would suggest that you wrap set or roller set your hair, and stay away from blow dryers and curling/flat irons. Heat damages your hair %26amp; causes split ends. Split ends can split all the way up to your scalp and make your hair look short and unhealthy. Trimming your hair every 8 weeks actually helps healthy hair growth by eliminating the split ends and making your hair look even and healthy. You hair won't shed and break as much.

Try Queen Helene cholesterol for deep conditioning and use Queen Helene hot oil treatment to make your hair soft. Then, when your hair is wet, wrap set or roller set your hair. If you roller set your hair, let it air dry and then take out the rollers, then wrap it (with Lotta body or Pantene wrap set lotion. Once you comb out you hair the next day, it will look like you used a curling iron. Try Pink Oil light cream moisturizer or Pantene Relaxed and Natural daily oil cream moisturizer to wrap your hair.

What most people fail to realize is that cutting your hair does not make it grow. All you are doing is cutting the ends. If you want your hair to grow there are some growth tonics and hair oils that will help. Some hair relaxers that are mild will also encourage hair growth. Also you can get scalp treatments on your scalp. Stimulation will make your hair grow. Hair only grows on the average about 1/2 inch a month. With proper care and certain products... you can be successful.

If hair is normal and healthy, each strand goes through a cycle of events: growth, fall and replacement. The formation and growth of hair depends on proper nourishment and oxygen which only the blood can supply. It grows more rapidly between the ages of 15 and 30.

Hate to break it to you but hair growth is not increased by close cutting, trimming, cutting or singeing. Most hair oils are lubricants, they do not feed the hair.

I hope this helps but really only time and good hair care will solve your dilemma!
